Shonda Rhimes about the season finale
.
I’m not even remotely caught up on Grey’s, but I still keep track of it, and always will, because— because of things like this tweet. I have endless, overflowing amounts of respect for Shonda Rhimes. I love the way she builds her narratives around PEOPLE— of every gender, sexuality, ethnicity and creed— in such a way that even the maddest events are grounded in character development.
You can say that Grey’s Anatomy has jumped the shark. That it’s sensationalist television, because they do bomb scares and boat crashes and shooters and natural disasters. But that is not and has never been the point of this show. The point of this show is people in it, and they are never not written with compassion and grace.
Look at the respect she has for her actors. Look at the respect she has for her medium. This woman is changing the face of television, and every time another one of her episodes passes the Bechdel test— both the lady and race versions— as they always do, an angel gets its wings.
I want to be her when I grow up.
